Pawel Mendrek is a painter, recently works often with various media, which allows him to find a balance between drawing, graphic art and painting and video. His art is a highly determined attempt at assembling a personalized world using a distinct formal language. His paintings have consistently utilized graphic textures, forms cut from paper, stroke and often smooth backgrounds. They have no illusionist spatial depth. Therefore, their focus is on the relationships between the figures and objects. Because of the simplicity of his technique, these works at first glance seem to be very domestic. They give form and meaning to that which we would normally consider unimportant. In this sense, his works are a poetic interpretation of our everyday surroundings and relationships and the way life fills the contents.
He graduated Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and University for Applied Arts Vienna. For more than 10 years he has been working with collage technique. This work resulted with such cycles as Kind of Woman (2002-2006), Interview (2003-2006), Accumulation (2007-2010) and also Sampling Spaces (2009-2011). Pawel’s works were exhibited in Museum Applied Arts Vienna; Kunstlerhaus Vienna; Museum of Art, Taiwan; Sienna Art Institute in Italy; BWA Gallery, Bielsko-Biała, Poland and also in Mill&Short Gallery in San Francisco. | pl
